How to transform an old LCD screen matrix into a new TV

Hi everyone! Today we are going to tell you how To make a TV set from an LCD screen matrix of an old not working laptop. This matrix had lain idle at my place for a long time. I had no idea what to do with it. Great that I`ve kept it.

I watched a video on the Internet about how to connect a matrix to a computer using a driver board and then use it as a computer monitor  But I dont need a monitor because I already have one. I ordered this driver board. It has built-in TV tuner. You can connect an antenna and use it as a TV set.

This also includes an infrared sensor, a remote control. The driver board has antenna input port, HDMI, VGA, USB port (used to update its firmware), Remote and keyboard port (it duplicates some functions of remote control: menu button, volume and screen brightness control, channel switch,...), Screen matrix port, Audio port, Inverter port (there is a lamp in the matrix,  The inverter lights it applying high voltage), Power input. A couple of words about the inverter. This is an original matrix inverter.

I failed to connect it because I couldnt find the pinout for it on the Internet. For connection to matrix we need: +12V, "ground", a switching-on signal, a backlight brightness signal. Four cables. There are 11 inverter cables, I couldnt find the pinout.

So Ive just ordered  an inverter with 4 cables. All of them are marked on the driver board. No difficulties with connection. I also had to order this ribbon cable For connection to the matrix.

Different matrixes need different ribbon cables. A matrix is labeled and the name is written on it. You can easily find its datasheet on the Internet. You must learn your matrix power supply voltage The voltage of this one is 3.3V.

We use jumpers to set the power supply to the driver board. There are several jumpers: 12V, 5V, 3V. They are marked. The data sheet says that This certain matrix needs 30-pin 6-bit connector I couldnt take a standard ribbon cable Because its mating part doesnt match the driver board Separately about the infrared sensor There is a link to its connection scheme in the video description.

Connect to the remote and keyboard port. We are feeding the driver board with 12V. And trying to connect all this. The ribbon cable bears a mark.

As well as the driver board. Watch out to avoid short circuit. We are supplying 12V power. For checking up we wont use the system as a TV, But as a computer monitor.

We are connecting to the laptop VGA port. I want to say that You can use any 12V power supply units. I havent bought any yet. I am going to take an old power supply unit with the on/off button.

We use the black and the yellow cables for 12V. We are switching it on. And we see this. First, there is a chromaticity problem.

Then, there are four pictures. A couple of full pictures. And a couple of cut pictures. First, lets handle the chromaticity issue.

We are switching to a TV mode for better visibility And opening the menu. Press 1147 In order to reach the service menu. 1 1 4 7 Failed, lets try again... Ready! There is the service menu.

We are choosing PANEL CONFIG. Changing TI MODE. Switch it back to the PC mode so as to see the changes. Over, over...

Thats it! Weve solved the chromaticity issue. I think that the problem with multiple pictures Can be caused by the driver board  that does not support the matrix resolution. The firmware has to be updated. So, We found various versions of firmware for this driver board.

But none of them matches our matrix. However, there were several versions matching matrixes with the same parameters, Which are: seven buttons, 3.3V power supply, 15.4" Screen matrix size. Everything is specified in the firmware name. Thus, number 154 is for 15.4" Size And we uploaded the firmware to the driver board.

Its easy to update firmware. We need an empty flash drive (to ensure nothing will interfere with the process). We write the firmware file to the flash drive. Insert the flash drive to the USB port.

Supply power to the driver board. Wait about half a minute (until the drives indicator stops flashing) Cut the power. Take out the flash drive. Lets check the result.

Switch on. And we see this picture from the laptop. It is clear and the text is readable. There is the only picture.

We are good to go. Thats all! Follow us on our channel, watch new videos. Try to repeat. You will be a success! There are links to all the used materials in the video description.

Bye!.
